Guwahati, June 25: The Directorate of Elementary Education (DEE) in Assam has instructed all District Elementary Education Officers to implement the ‘Indian Language Summer Camp’ (ILSC) 2026 in schools across the state, in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
According to an official notification from the DEE, the initiative aims to promote multilingual education among students and strengthen linguistic diversity, aligning with the goals of the NEP.
The DEE has emphasized that district-level education officials must ensure the program is conducted in schools within their jurisdiction. The notification states that this initiative is being carried out as per directives received from the school education department and relevant government authorities.
Officials noted that the purpose of the ‘Indian Language Summer Camp’ is to encourage students to learn different Indian languages and understand their significance, while also fostering cultural awareness and national unity. This program is part of broader efforts under NEP 2020 to enhance multilingualism among school children and improve language learning capabilities.
The Directorate has sent detailed guidelines and necessary documents to the districts for the implementation of the camp. District officials have been instructed to coordinate with schools and ensure that activities adhere to the established framework.
Officials anticipate that this initiative will provide students with opportunities to engage in language-based activities, interactive learning sessions, and cultural exchanges. These activities are designed to raise awareness about India’s linguistic heritage.
The National Education Policy 2020 places significant emphasis on multilingual education, promoting familiarity with multiple Indian languages from the early stages of learning. Education department officials stated that the summer camp initiative aligns with these goals and aims to spark greater interest among students in India’s rich linguistic traditions.
It is expected that the state education department will monitor the implementation of this program through reports received from districts and schools across Assam.
