Assam Government Prioritizes Indigenous Communities, Says Minister

Guwahati, May 9: Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Barua stated on Friday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government will continue to focus on the development of the state’s indigenous communities and backward areas. He emphasized that the electoral success of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) reflects the growing public trust in their governance model.

Speaking to reporters, Barua noted that the people of Assam have strongly supported the government’s development agenda, particularly in strengthening infrastructure, welfare schemes, and inclusive development across various communities and regions.

He asserted that the citizens of Assam are confident that the current government is committed to the overall development of the state and its tribal communities. This support is evident in the election results.

The minister highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of various tribal groups, including the Rabha, Bodo, and other ethnic communities residing in different parts of Assam.

He mentioned that the BJP government has been consistently working to resolve long-term issues affecting the tribal population and ensure balanced development in remote and backward areas.

Barua also shed light on the government’s welfare initiatives, stating that numerous schemes launched in recent years have provided direct benefits to the people.

Referring to the Orunodoi scheme, he noted that the government has significantly expanded its scope. Last year, approximately 150,000 beneficiaries received assistance under this cash transfer program. This year, the government aims to further extend the reach of welfare schemes to benefit more individuals.

The minister emphasized the importance of protecting the rights and identities of tribal communities while ensuring economic progress and better connectivity in rural and border areas.

According to him, the BJP-led government has adopted a policy of directly engaging with communities and stakeholders to address issues through discussion and consensus.
