Guwahati, September 3: The floods in Assam have impacted over 25,000 individuals. In the West Karbi Anglong district, a woman has died, bringing the total death toll to 108, according to the latest assessment by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
A senior official reported that seven districts are affected, including Golaghat, Sivasagar, Bishwanath, Nagaon, Morigaon, West Karbi Anglong, and Cachar. Currently, approximately 25,083 people from 155 villages are affected by the floods, and 13 relief camps have been established to shelter the displaced.
The floods have also severely damaged agricultural land. ASDMA indicates that around 6,477.31 hectares of crop area have been inundated, raising concerns about the impact on farmers’ livelihoods in the affected districts.
In some areas, river water levels remain a cause for concern. The Dhansiri River in Numaligarh and the Katkhal River in Matijuri are flowing above their danger levels.
With the recent death in West Karbi Anglong, the total number of fatalities related to floods in the state has reached 108. Due to the ongoing flood situation in parts of Assam, officials are closely monitoring river water levels, low-lying areas, and other vulnerable locations.
Relief and rescue operations are ongoing in the affected districts, with local authorities working to assist those impacted by the floods.
Officials are also assessing the extent of damage to homes, agricultural land, and other properties. Amid rising water levels in several rivers, the administration is monitoring areas that may be at risk of further flooding.
Assam has been experiencing recurrent flooding during the monsoon season, putting large portions of the state’s riverine and low-lying areas at risk of inundation.
Authorities are expected to continue reviewing the situation and take necessary measures based on changes in water levels and geographical conditions.
