Guwahati, April 3: A BJP candidate expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his visit to the district ahead of the assembly elections scheduled for April 9. The candidate, Tankeshwar Rabha, thanked Shah for his guidance during this crucial time.
During a rally in Dudhnoi, Golapara, Shah addressed the pressing issue of illegal immigration in Assam. Rabha emphasized the need for implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in light of the challenges posed by illegal immigrants.
Rabha noted that this marks the first visit of a Union Home Minister to this area, making it a significant moment for the locals. He highlighted that illegal immigration from Bangladesh has become a major concern for the district, prompting his appeal for the UCC.
He stated, “There are many immigrants in Golapara district, making the implementation of UCC essential. The indigenous population here is quite small. While their numbers have not decreased, immigrants have taken away our culture, heritage, identity, and land.”
Rabha further clarified that Amit Shah has assured that the UCC will not apply to tribal communities. He criticized the current Congress MP, Abdur Rashid Mandal, for not standing with the tribal population.
He accused Mandal of inaction over the past five years, stating, “Not a single road has been built here. The forests are the heart of this place. Immigrants have illegally occupied these forests. The Congress party has not supported the indigenous people here.”
Shah, during his rally in Dudhnoi, took a firm stance against illegal immigration, alleging that the Congress party has turned Assam into a hub for immigrants.
