Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarmas Fake AI-Generated Image Sparks Legal Action

Guwahati, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : The Chief Minister‘s Office (CMO) of Assam has expressed concern over a digitally altered image of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma that has gone viral on social media. The CMO has filed a legal case regarding this matter.

According to the CMO, the image was created using artificial intelligence (AI) and was deliberately designed to mislead the public. In a statement released on Monday, the office emphasized that the content bears no relation to reality and is entirely fabricated.

“The Assam Chief Minister’s Office has taken serious note of the deliberate circulation of a fake and morphed image of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on social media,” the statement read. It further highlighted that the AI-generated image is completely fictitious and unrelated to actual events.

The CMO stated that the manipulated content was spread with the intent to mislead the public and tarnish the Chief Minister’s image. Legal action has been initiated against those involved in creating and disseminating the fake image, with the identities of the responsible parties already established.

The statement warned that creating and spreading altered digital content on social media is a misuse of online platforms and can have severe consequences, particularly when such material aims to create false perceptions among the public.

The CMO has pledged to take strict legal measures against all individuals found participating in this campaign. Given the rapid spread of AI-generated images and digitally altered content on social media, officials are urging users to verify information before sharing or reposting it.

The Assam CMO has also appealed to social media users to exercise caution and refrain from disseminating unverified content related to the Chief Minister or the state government. This appeal is especially directed toward those who may have already shared or reposted the image, urging them to check its authenticity before further circulation.

This incident comes at a time of growing concerns regarding the use of AI and digital manipulation to create misleading images and information, particularly about public figures. The CMO noted that such fabricated content could be used to create confusion without any solid basis, impacting public opinion.
