Assam Showcases a Blend of Development and Heritage, Says Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the state’s rich architectural heritage while discussing its modern developments on World Architecture Day. He noted that Assam has historically been a hub of remarkable architectural skills, with structures like the Rang Ghar and Kamakhya Temple exemplifying the region’s unique cultural and architectural traditions.

In a post on the social media platform X, Sarma stated, “From Rang Ghar to Kamakhya Temple, Assam has always been a land of great architectural prowess.” He highlighted that the state’s current development efforts are in harmony with its architectural legacy. New constructions aim to balance modernization with the preservation of cultural identity.

On this occasion, Sarma encouraged people to observe how modern Assam is creating structures and designs that incorporate both development and heritage. His remarks come at a time when the state is showcasing infrastructure and public projects that blend contemporary facilities with elements reflecting Assam’s history, culture, and traditions.

The Chief Minister has frequently stressed the importance of expanding infrastructure and creating modern public spaces while safeguarding Assam’s heritage as part of the state’s broader development agenda. The Rang Ghar, located in Sivasagar, is one of Assam’s most significant historical buildings, recognized as a symbol of Ahom-era architecture. This two-story structure was traditionally used as a royal sports pavilion.

Meanwhile, the Kamakhya Temple, perched atop Nilachal Hill in Guwahati, is one of the most important religious and cultural sites in Assam, renowned for its unique architecture and historical significance. The state government is promoting tourism and infrastructure development around various heritage and cultural sites, focusing on improving connectivity and visitor amenities while preserving their historical character.

Sarma’s message on World Architecture Day underscores the government’s commitment to advancing development while honoring Assam’s distinctive cultural heritage.
