
Guwahati, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Assam’s Chief Minister‘s Office (CMO) announced on October 5 that the Assam Police have initiated action against several individuals involved in disseminating a morphed image of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The CMO issued a stern warning that strict legal measures would be taken against anyone creating, sharing, or promoting fabricated content.
According to the CMO, police have begun necessary actions against those responsible for spreading the altered image on social media. The office emphasized that such deliberate attempts to mislead the public would not be tolerated.
The statement noted that individuals accountable for creating, sharing, or promoting these fake campaigns would face serious consequences under the law. This incident comes amid controversy surrounding a digitally altered image of Sarma that circulated online.
In a related development, a Congress leader has been taken into custody by Assam Police in connection with the case. Police identified Queen Hazarika, the vice president of the Golpara District Congress social media cell, as the individual accused of sharing the morphed image.
The viral image depicted Chief Minister Sarma with a woman. Authorities allege that the image was altered using artificial intelligence and subsequently spread online. Reports indicate that the Congress leader was detained for allegedly sharing the fake image on social media.
This action has sparked a new political controversy in Assam. Officials warn that using altered or AI-generated content to target public figures could lead to legal repercussions. The CMO clarified that the police’s actions aim to prevent the deliberate spread of false information and protect the public from being misled.
