150 Illegal Bangladeshi Migrants Deported from Jammu and Kashmir to West Bengal

150 illegal Bangladeshi migrants have been deported from Jammu and Kashmir to West Bengal for repatriation.

Kolkata, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : A total of 150 illegal Bangladeshi migrants have been deported from Jammu and Kashmir to West Bengal for repatriation. These individuals were transported by an Indian Air Force aircraft from Srinagar to Bagdogra Airport.

According to officials, the migrants have been handed over to the Border Security Force (BSF) authorities in North Bengal for further action. They will be placed in a detention center while efforts are made to send them back to Bangladesh through official channels.

An official stated that if Bangladesh refuses to accept these individuals, they will be pushed back across the border. This process is expected to take place on October 7.

The deportation occurs in phases across different sections of the border. Illegal migrants are taken close to the zero line, where they then enter Bangladesh on their own.

The BSF in West Bengal has previously conducted similar deportations. Illegal Bangladeshi migrants apprehended in various parts of India are often sent to West Bengal for repatriation across the international border.

Officials noted that in some instances, Bangladeshi authorities agree to take back their citizens, while in others, they refuse responsibility. In the coming days, more illegal migrants from Jammu and Kashmir may be sent elsewhere, leading to an increase in the number of Bangladeshi nationals brought to West Bengal for deportation.

In previous years, illegal Bangladeshi migrants from states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Karnataka have also been deported through West Bengal. Reports indicate that approximately 4,800 to 5,000 illegal migrants were deported to Bangladesh via West Bengal in 2026 alone.

Data presented by the Ministry of External Affairs in Parliament revealed that between 2009 and 2011, 23,653 individuals were deported. The Ministry of Home Affairs also reported that by 2014, 28,131 illegal migrants had been deported. With ongoing “Special Intensive Revision” of voter lists in several states, officials believe that more individuals may be deported in the coming months.
