New Delhi, February 8: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will hold a press conference today, where he is expected to reveal details about a significant political nexus involving Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.
Ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, Sarma launched a sharp political attack on the alleged agreement between Congress and the Raijor Dal, led by Akhil Gogoi. He stated that there is no future for the opposition alliance in the state.
Speaking to reporters during the inauguration of new school buildings on Monday, Sarma mentioned that the upcoming press conference on February 8 would go beyond old allegations regarding Gaurav Gogoi’s purported “links to Pakistan” and present the entire network associated with him to the public. He claimed that the revelations made in this press conference would have significant political implications.
In response to reports about the Congress-Raijor Dal alliance, the Chief Minister asserted that opposition leaders might form a government elsewhere, but there is no possibility for them in Assam.
Mocking Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi, Sarma stated that he would not be able to establish a government in Assam even in 500 years. He also accused Gaurav Gogoi, Akhil Gogoi, and the president of the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, of attempting a coordinated political counterattack following a joint press conference on Sunday.
According to the Chief Minister, these efforts are merely attempts to shield themselves from the upcoming revelations by the BJP. Sending a stern message to opposition leaders, Sarma emphasized that now is the right time for Akhil Gogoi and Lurin Jyoti Gogoi to negotiate seat-sharing, as their political significance will diminish after February 8.
He stated, “They should take advantage of the political situation while they can, because things will change after February 8.”
Sarma’s statements have intensified the political atmosphere in Assam. As the Assembly elections approach, political rhetoric in the state is becoming increasingly heated.
