Kerala Election Commission Transfers Five Senior Officials Ahead of Polls

New Delhi, March 17: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has assured that the upcoming assembly elections will be free from inducements and will be conducted fairly and peacefully across all states, including Kerala. To uphold this commitment, the Election Commission has transferred several senior officials in Kerala. A letter was sent to the state’s Chief Secretary instructing the immediate implementation of these orders.

According to the letter issued by the Election Commission, IPS officer Narayanan (DIG rank) has been appointed as the District Police Chief in Kozhikode. Thomson Jose (IPS-2009) has been assigned to Thrissur as DIG Range, Inbasekhar (IAS-2015) will serve as the District Collector and DEO in Alappuzha, Vandana S. (KAS) has been designated as the Revenue Board Officer in Thaliparamba, and Sachin Krishna (KAS) has been appointed as the District Registrar General in Kannur.

The Commission has mandated that these orders take effect immediately and has requested a compliance report regarding the officials’ assumption of duties by 11 AM on March 18, 2026. Additionally, the Election Commission has instructed the Kerala government not to assign the transferred officials to any election-related positions until the elections conclude.

Notably, voting in Kerala will take place in a single phase on April 9, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its first list of 47 candidates on Monday. This list includes K. Surendran for the Manjeshwar seat, Manuel Meloth for the Udma seat, Balraj M. for the Kanhangad seat, A.P. Gangadharan for the Payyanur seat, K.K. Vinod Kumar for the Azhikode seat, C. Raghunath for the Kannur seat, P. Shyam Raj for the Mananthavadi (ST) seat, Kavita A.S. for the Sultan Bathery (ST) seat, Advocate K. Dilip for the Vadakara seat, Ramdas Manaleri for the Kuttayiadi seat, C.P. Vipin Chandran for the Nadapuram seat, C.R. Praful Krishnan for the Quilandy seat, and M. Mohanan Master for the Perambra seat.
