Actor Darshan Faces Setback as Court Allows Accused Prodosha Rao to Become State Witness

Bengaluru, August 26: In a significant development in the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case, a trial court in Bengaluru has granted permission for the 14th accused, Prodosha S. Rao, to become a state witness and provide information related to the crime.

Prodosha Rao had filed a petition seeking approval to turn state witness in the case, which also involves actor Darshan and his partner, Pavitra Gowda, as accused.

While approving the petition, Judge Sujata Madivalappa Sambhrani imposed certain conditions on Prodosha Rao’s status as a state witness. He must remain in judicial custody until the legal proceedings are complete. The court warned that if he violates these conditions or provides false testimony, he could face charges of perjury, lose his status as a state witness, and be recharged in the case.

The court has instructed Prodosha Rao to disclose all truthful information related to the case. It cautioned that if he conceals essential facts or fails to tell the truth, his status as a state witness could be revoked, and he could be considered an accused again.

A copy of the court’s order has been sent to Prodosha through prison authorities.

Prodosha Rao previously informed the court that he voluntarily decided to become a state witness and is not acting under any influence, pressure, or coercion.

In the first week of August, he filed a petition through his lawyer, expressing his readiness to disclose all relevant facts and seeking forgiveness from the court by becoming a state witness.

This development is crucial as his revelations may impact the ongoing trial.

The case revolves around the alleged murder of Renukaswamy, whose body was discovered in June 2024 in Bengaluru. The Renukaswamy murder case has drawn significant public attention since the arrest of 16 individuals, including Kannada actor Darshan and his partner Pavitra Gowda, on charges of the alleged abduction and murder of a 33-year-old fan from Chitradurga.
