Pune, August 26: The Bundgarden police have arrested three individuals in connection with a robbery involving a senior booking clerk at Pune Railway Station.
The police utilized footage from over 150 CCTV cameras to trace the suspects to Dombivli East.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on August 18 around 1 AM when the clerk was engaged in ticket booking. Two unidentified assailants reportedly attacked him with a knife, threatening his life and stealing cash, two mobile phones, and a gold chain before fleeing the scene.
A complaint was filed immediately after the incident, leading to the registration of a case at Bundgarden police station. Senior Police Inspector Santosh Pandhare formed two teams to locate the suspects.
Investigators reviewed footage from approximately 150 CCTV cameras installed along the route from Pune Railway Station to Dombivli East Railway Station. The footage provided images of the suspects and revealed their activities post-robbery.
During the investigation, police discovered that the suspects had reached the Manpada police station area in Dombivli East. Based on information from officers Prakash Ahwad and Saras Salvi, the suspects were traced to the Bhopar village Kamani area.
A joint team from Bundgarden police and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted a raid on August 21 around 4 AM, resulting in the arrest of two suspects.
The accused have been identified as 24-year-old Jitendra Motiram Rathod and 23-year-old Ishwar Gorakh Chavan, both originally from Jalgaon and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar districts, currently residing in Dombivli East.
During interrogation, both reportedly confessed to their involvement in the robbery. Additionally, police learned that a relative, 35-year-old Ajay Madan Chavan, also assisted in the crime and was subsequently arrested.
Authorities have recovered the stolen cash and two mobile phones from the suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
