Assam Chief Minister Accuses Foreign Forces of Political Conspiracy

Guwahati, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, accused certain political factions of attempting to orchestrate a change in government without public backing. Speaking in Guwahati on October 12, he asserted that foreign powers are fueling this effort, opposing India’s growth and emergence as a strong nation.

During a press conference, Sarma linked recent protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to the central government’s actions against Naxalism, efforts to restore peace in the Northeast, and military actions against Pakistan. He emphasized that these protests are part of a broader attempt to disrupt India’s political landscape.

Sarma alleged that the movement lacks popular support and is instead backed by foreign entities that do not wish to see India prosper. He suggested that those behind this alleged campaign are frustrated due to the Modi government’s firm stance against Naxalism and improvements in security conditions in the Northeast.

He also referenced India’s military actions within Pakistan, asserting that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the country has shown greater resolve in addressing security challenges. Sarma argued that these developments have angered forces opposed to India’s rise as a powerful nation.

His remarks come amid escalating political tensions between the ruling BJP and the Congress party, with the opposition questioning the functioning of democratic institutions and the electoral process. While Sarma accused certain elements of destabilizing the political system, he did not provide specific evidence or identify the foreign powers allegedly supporting the move for a power shift.

Sarma has consistently defended the central government’s security policies, particularly its actions against Naxalism and efforts to bolster safety in the Northeast. The ongoing accusations could further intensify the political clash between the BJP and Congress, as the opposition seeks to counter the Chief Minister’s claims.
