Opposition Raises Concerns Over Chief Election Commissioners Conduct and Special Intensive Review

New Delhi, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : Opposition leaders have voiced serious concerns regarding the conduct of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the ongoing Special Intensive Review (SIR) of the voter list. Members of the Samajwadi Party, including MPs Ramji Lal Suman and Jiya Ur Rahman Bark, have expressed their dissatisfaction with the Election Commission‘s operations and vowed to continue their protests.

In Bareilly, Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman highlighted the growing public dissent against the Chief Election Commissioner’s actions. He noted that the criticism is not limited to political parties; it also encompasses various societal groups, including youth, students, intellectuals, and lawyers.

Echoing these sentiments, MP Jiya Ur Rahman Bark stated that he has been actively involved in the protests alongside his party and leader Akhilesh Yadav. He emphasized that this issue is fundamentally linked to the public and urged all segments of society to unite in their voices. Bark mentioned that the opposition is demanding necessary resignations, but the officials involved have thus far refused to step down. He clarified that the opposition will continue its efforts through constitutional and legal channels.

Professor Mohammad Saleem Engineer, Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, also raised alarms about the SIR, claiming widespread irregularities. He asserted that many legitimate voters have been removed from the electoral rolls, questioning the Election Commission’s adherence to the constitution’s fundamental principles.

Engineer pointed out that peaceful protests are being held across the country, including in Delhi, but the government is attempting to suppress them. He referenced the security restrictions, train cancellations, and metro station closures that created a curfew-like situation in the city prior to the protests on October 10.
