Gandhinagar, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : Gujarat’s Kutch, Dahod, and Chhota Udaipur districts have been recognized with national awards for their outstanding performance under the Prime Minister’s Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. Kutch received accolades for its exemplary administration and service delivery, while Dahod and Chhota Udaipur were honored for improvements in irrigation infrastructure.
The awards were presented during a ceremony in New Delhi by Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan. This event marked the one-year anniversary of the agricultural initiative.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel congratulated the district administrations of Kutch, Dahod, and Chhota Udaipur, along with the agricultural department officials, for their achievements. These awards highlight the significant role that enhanced irrigation infrastructure plays in boosting agricultural productivity, particularly in hilly and tribal regions like Dahod and Chhota Udaipur.
According to the state government, efforts by district administrations to improve irrigation capacity, strengthen infrastructure, and ensure adequate water supply for farmers have led to better availability of water for agriculture. This, in turn, has facilitated an increase in agricultural production and productivity.
The Prime Minister launched this initiative on October 12, 2025, targeting 100 agricultural aspirational districts across the country that have potential for agricultural development but lag in productivity and economic growth. These districts face challenges such as relatively low agricultural productivity, medium crop intensity, and limited access to agricultural credit.
With an investment of ₹24,000 crores, the scheme aims to strengthen the agricultural sector through improvements in six key areas: enhancing agricultural productivity, promoting crop diversification and sustainable practices, increasing post-harvest storage capacity, improving irrigation infrastructure, expanding access to short-term and long-term agricultural loans, and strengthening administration and service delivery.
At the national review meeting held on the scheme’s first anniversary, 18 districts across the country were recognized for their excellent work related to these six objectives. The inclusion of Kutch, Dahod, Chhota Udaipur, and Panchmahal districts in this initiative signifies a major achievement for Gujarat, especially with three of its districts receiving national recognition in the very first year.
