Supreme Court Delays Hearing on Rahul Gandhis Petition Against Election Commission
The Supreme Court will not hear Rahul Gandhis petition against the Election Commission due to incomplete documentation.

New Delhi, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : The Supreme Court will not hold a hearing on the petition filed by Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and 11 other leaders from the India bloc against the Election Commission. This decision comes as the supplementary list released on October 13 did not include Gandhi’s petition.
The Supreme Court registry identified 14 deficiencies in the petition submitted by Gandhi. The case will be listed for hearing only after these issues are resolved. According to the registry, the petition contains several technical and documentation errors. These include improperly naming respondents, failing to attach a copy of a previous ruling, and the absence of affidavits from nine petitioners. Additionally, a blurry copy of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s ID card was provided, and the court fee submitted was short by 220 rupees. The registry has made it clear that the case will not proceed until these deficiencies are corrected.
Previously, Gandhi’s legal team filed an important petition concerning irregularities by the Election Commission with the Supreme Court. This petition was officially recorded by the court registry on October 12 at 4:37 PM.
The petition was not solely from Gandhi but was jointly filed by 11 prominent leaders from the opposition ‘India’ bloc. The petitioners include Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sougata Roy, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Sanjay Raut, M.A. Baby, D. Raja, Mahua Majhi, Supriya Sule, and E.T. Mohammed Basheer. The legal representation for the petitioners was handled by advocate Prasanna S.
Four parties were named as respondents in the petition. The first respondent is the Election Commission of India (ECI), while the other three are ECI officials Gyanesh Kumar, Sukbir Singh Sandhu, and Vivek Joshi.
Sources indicate that Rahul Gandhi has invited Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members for tea at his residence on Tuesday. A joint press conference of the India alliance leaders is also scheduled for that afternoon, following which the tea event will take place. It is anticipated that the meeting will focus on strategies regarding the Election Commission.
