Bengaluru, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : Karnataka MP Basavaraj Bommai condemned the recent march to the Supreme Court organized by the Congress party and its allies, describing it as entirely “unconstitutional,” “illegal,” and “undemocratic.” In a press release issued on Monday, he expressed concern over the pressure being exerted on the Supreme Court, emphasizing that cases related to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and the State Information Report (SIR) are already under consideration by the court.
Bommai warned that this politically motivated action could incite chaos in the country and is a troubling precursor to potential rebellion against the Supreme Court. He lamented the decline of the Congress party, which has been in power for nearly 60 years, and urged all citizens of India to firmly oppose these actions.
Additionally, Bommai called for the Karnataka state government to challenge the Karnataka High Court‘s decision that annulled the increase in reservations for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) in the Supreme Court. He cautioned that if the government does not act, he would take the matter to the Supreme Court himself.
He clarified that the increase in reservations was based on the Justice Nagamohan Das Committee’s report and was enacted following legislation passed in both houses of the state assembly. He stressed that this law was established in accordance with the Constitution, which allows for reservations for SC and ST communities based on their population.
Bommai further asserted that those filing public interest litigations (PILs) against the increase are opposing the development of SC and ST communities, and he believes the state government must take this issue to the Supreme Court.
