Major Administrative Reshuffle in West Bengal Ahead of Durga Puja

Kolkata, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : The West Bengal government has implemented a significant administrative reshuffle in preparation for the upcoming Durga Puja. This change, announced on Monday, involves the transfer of four Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers at the departmental secretary level.

Omkar Singh Meena, who previously served as the Principal Secretary of the Agriculture Department, has been appointed as the Principal Secretary of the Animal Husbandry Department.

The other three officers affected by the reshuffle include Mukta Arya, Shashank Shetty, and Arvind Kumar Meena. Mukta Arya has been named the Chairperson and Managing Director of the West Bengal State Electricity Development Corporation Limited. She previously held the position of Secretary in the Department of Sundarbans Affairs.

Shashank Shetty is now the new Secretary of the Department of Sundarbans Affairs, having served as the Additional Director General at the Netaji Subhas Administrative Training Institute prior to this appointment. Meanwhile, Arvind Kumar Meena has been appointed as the new Secretary of the State Tribal Development Department, transitioning from his previous role as Secretary of the Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education Department.

All four officers have received the necessary directives to assume their new responsibilities. Observers in the state’s administrative circles consider this reshuffle to be highly significant, especially ahead of Durga Puja.

This change comes in the wake of a power shift in the state following the recent assembly elections, which resulted in the formation of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. Suvendu Adhikari has taken office as Chief Minister. Since assuming the role, Adhikari has emphasized the need for efficiency in administrative functions. Over the past five months of the new government’s tenure, several changes have occurred across various administrative departments.
