New Delhi, February 16: Minister Ashish Sood of the Delhi government conducted an inspection of the housing units in the Bhalswa Vijay Chowk area. During the visit, he found that most of the buildings were vacant and in a dilapidated condition. He instructed the relevant officials to take immediate action for repairs.
Speaking to reporters, Minister Sood emphasized that the government is committed to providing decent housing for those living in slums. He stated that the government is working swiftly on this initiative. Officials were given clear instructions to conduct a thorough technical assessment of all flats and to commence repair work promptly. Buildings with structural deficiencies are to be prioritized to prevent any potential accidents in the future. Additionally, the focus was placed on restoring essential services such as electricity, water, sewage, and roads.
During the inspection, Sood reiterated the government’s commitment to providing dignified housing for slum residents. He explained that these flats were originally constructed for the rehabilitation of families living in slums, but due to various reasons, their allocation has been delayed. The government has now decided that once the repair work is completed, eligible families will be allotted these flats.
Minister Sood assured that slum residents would not be forced to live in temporary plots or inconvenient locations. The government’s goal is to ensure that they receive permanent homes in a safe, clean, and organized environment. Plans are underway to provide new housing to residents soon.
He also assured that the allocation process would be transparent, and any irregularities would not be tolerated. Officials have been instructed to complete the work as soon as possible so that residents can move into a clean environment.
It is noteworthy that approximately 1,700 flats built in the Bhalswa Vijay Chowk area in 2014 have been in a state of disrepair for a long time. Due to years of vacancy, most of these flats have turned into ruins and require immediate attention.
