Mumbai, June 30: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for Maharashtra over the next few days. According to the weather department, widespread rainfall is expected in the Konkan and Goa regions, central Maharashtra, and parts of Marathwada from June 29 to July 5. Some areas may experience severe thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds.
The IMD has indicated that heavy to very heavy rainfall could occur in several places in the Konkan and Goa region on June 29, July 2, and July 3. Additionally, heavy rainfall is anticipated to continue in certain locations on June 30, July 1, and from July 4 to July 5. There is also a warning for extremely heavy rainfall in some areas during this period.
In central Maharashtra, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected on July 2 and July 3. Furthermore, intermittent rain may persist in this region from June 29 to July 5.
The Marathwada and Saurashtra-Kutch regions are also likely to see ongoing rainfall in various locations between June 29 and July 5. The weather department has warned of strong winds (40-50 km/h) accompanied by thunder and lightning in these areas.
According to the IMD, an upper air cyclonic circulation is active over the east-central Arabian Sea near the Maharashtra coast, which is increasing moisture levels and creating conditions for continuous rainfall in the state. As a result, the intensity of rainfall may increase in the coming days.
The weather department has advised citizens to remain vigilant, especially warning fishermen against venturing into the sea due to the likelihood of adverse weather conditions in the Arabian Sea.
