
Visakhapatnam, April 27: India’s Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan attended the centenary celebrations of Andhra University in Visakhapatnam on Monday. Speaking at the event, he expressed his honor in being part of this historic occasion, marking a century of excellence at the university. He noted that the institution has not only witnessed history but has also played a crucial role in shaping it. Over the past hundred years, the university has been a melting pot of ideas, nurturing generations of students who have significantly contributed to nation-building.
While paying tribute to the legacy of former Vice President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, one of India’s most esteemed philosophers and politicians, the Vice President highlighted his vision for education, which emphasized the development of both intellect and character. He remarked that this vision remains as relevant today as it was then.
The Vice President also acknowledged prominent personalities associated with Visakhapatnam, including Nobel laureate C.V. Raman, who received his early education in the city, and former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, an esteemed alumnus of the university. He mentioned that Andhra University has produced many distinguished individuals who have received prestigious awards such as the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Shri, and Sahitya Akademi honors.
Reflecting on his previous visit to Visakhapatnam for the 30th CII Partnership Summit, the Vice President expressed satisfaction with the rapid progress made by Andhra Pradesh under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership. He noted that the state has accelerated its development trajectory, attracting significant investments and reinforcing its position as a center for innovation and growth. He also recognized the role of IT Minister Nara Lokesh in promoting the state’s technology ecosystem.
Highlighting the growing global confidence in Andhra Pradesh, the Vice President mentioned the interest and investments from leading technology companies like Google. He stated that Visakhapatnam is emerging as a key development center, particularly in sectors such as data centers, IT, tourism, electronics, and digital infrastructure, including major projects like hyperscale data centers and IT investments.
The Vice President congratulated the people of Andhra Pradesh on the declaration of Amaravati as the state’s permanent capital following the passage of the relevant bill in Parliament. He shared that he had the privilege of presiding over the Rajya Sabha during the bill’s passage and witnessed the joy and pride of the public. He described this decision as a reflection of the collective aspirations of the people and emphasized that it would provide clarity, stability, and direction for the state’s administrative future.
In reference to the vision of a developed India, the Vice President recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s words that a developed India can only be realized through developed states. He stated that with visionary leadership, empowered governance, and effective implementation, Andhra Pradesh has emerged as one of the fastest-growing states in the country.
He noted that Andhra Pradesh has become a major destination for investment, accounting for over 25 percent of the proposed investments in the country for 2025-26. He highlighted the state’s investor-friendly policies, which include timely approvals, transparent governance, and a robust single-window system that ensures seamless access to land, electricity, connectivity, and a skilled workforce.
Emphasizing that success takes time, the Vice President remarked that even cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar had to wait to achieve his centuries. He stressed the importance of patience in attaining success.
He advised individuals to learn to manage internal pressures and stated that failures teach valuable lessons, urging everyone to face life with confidence.
During the event, the Vice President presented distinguished alumni awards to notable figures, including former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Odisha Governor K. Hari Babu, GMR Group founder and chairman Gandhi Mallikarjun Rao, former Union Home Secretary K. Padmanabhaiah, founder and executive chairman of Sciant B.V.R. Mohan Reddy, founder and CEO of Lorus Labs Satyanarayana Chava, former director of IIT Delhi V.S. Raju, former professor at IIT Kanpur M.R. Madhav, CEO of Press Trust of India Vijay Joshi, and filmmaker Trivikram Srinivas.
The Vice President also released a commemorative coin, a commemorative postage stamp, and a coffee table book. In his presence, three memorandums of understanding were exchanged between Andhra University and the University of Florida, Oxmic Labs Inc. in the USA, and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM). Later, he toured a photo exhibition showcasing the history and development of Andhra University.
Present at the event were Andhra Pradesh Governor and Chancellor of Andhra University Abdul Nazir, former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister of Civil Aviation K. Ram Mohan Naidu, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampti, Union Minister of State Bhupathi Raju Srinivasa Varma, Minister of Information and Human Resource Development Nara Lokesh, and Vice Chancellor Prof. G.P. Raja Shekhar.
Earlier in the day, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan offered prayers at the Sri Kurnanath Swami Temple and the Arasavalli Sri Surya Narayana Swami Temple in Srikakulam district.
