Mumbai, June 15: Renowned actor Amitabh Bachchan frequently shares amusing anecdotes and insights with his fans on his blog. Recently, he highlighted an intriguing story related to language and colloquial speech. He explained how ordinary people creatively adapt English words to suit their own style, resulting in new and interesting terms.
Bachchan believes that such words enhance the richness of language. He began his blog post by addressing his fans, humorously clarifying that he was not late due to oversleeping but rather because he was busy with work. He expressed that his tasks feel complete when he connects with his audience.
He then recounted an amusing incident involving bougainvillea plants at his home, ‘Jalsa.’ He mentioned that his gardener struggled to pronounce the English word “shrubbery.” Consequently, he began referring to it as “sarabari,” a term that Bachchan found endearing and even more appealing than the original English word.
Bachchan provided another example, noting that many people mispronounce “radiator.” They have taken to calling it “ready water,” believing that since radiators contain water, that should be its name. He acknowledged that while this term may not be technically accurate, it reflects a unique creativity and familiarity.
He further explained that these adaptations often closely resemble the original words yet incorporate the sweetness of local language and culture. This blend is what makes them sound even more beautiful.
Amitabh Bachchan emphasized that not everyone is fluent in English, but people naturally reshape words based on their experiences and understanding. This creativity breathes life into language. He also expressed gratitude to his fans, stating that those who visit him every Sunday make his home and life even more beautiful.
