Puducherry, August 9: Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the Puducherry Police on Sunday for receiving the esteemed ‘Presidential Police Color.’ He noted that despite limited resources, the Puducherry Police earned this honor through hard work, bravery, service, and dedication.
During the event held in Puducherry, Amit Shah presented the police with the presidential emblem.
He stated, “On behalf of the President, Prime Minister, and the Ministry of Home Affairs, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Chief Minister of Puducherry, the Union Territory government, the Puducherry Police, and the people of Puducherry for this significant achievement.”
Shah emphasized that the Puducherry Police, with fewer than 5,000 personnel, have fulfilled their responsibilities with diligence, valor, and a spirit of service. This commitment has led to their recognition. Additionally, the police have played a crucial role in preserving Puducherry’s spiritual heritage.
He remarked, “Congratulations to all of you on receiving the prestigious ‘Presidential Color.’ Our Puducherry is a vibrant symbol of the spiritual and cultural consciousness of South India.”
The ‘Presidential Police Color’ is the highest honor awarded to any police force or military unit in India, also known as ‘Nishan.’ This award is given for outstanding performance, bravery, discipline, and exemplary service.
The Home Minister noted that this honor was not merely a result of a file or government order. It was earned through the police’s hard work, valor, service, and dedication. He stated that the bravery and commitment of the Puducherry Police will be remembered as a ‘golden chapter’ in the history of policing.
Amit Shah highlighted that Puducherry’s spiritual essence is strengthened by the ashram of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, which has provided the nation with spiritual direction.
He added, “Despite being under French rule for 230 years, Puducherry has preserved its Indian identity and spiritual energy.”
Shah also praised the efforts of the Puducherry Police during the COVID-19 pandemic. He said, “When COVID became a significant challenge for the world, I regularly reviewed the situation of all states and especially Union Territories from the Ministry of Home Affairs. During those difficult days, the Puducherry Police stood at the forefront, demonstrating great bravery in serving the elderly, children, and women. I will always remember your loyalty and dedication.”
The Home Minister mentioned that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the government has replaced colonial-era laws with three new Indian criminal laws aimed at delivering justice rather than merely imposing punishment.
He explained, “The new laws are based on three pillars: Technology, Timeline, and Trust. The justice process will now be faster, more transparent, and reliable.”
