Kathmandu, August 9: Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah has been in the spotlight due to his self-imposed diplomatic rules. Breaking these norms, he will hold separate bilateral meetings with foreign ambassadors starting August 10 in Kathmandu. His first meeting will be with Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava.
According to official sources from Nepal News, Shah will meet with Ambassador Srivastava on Monday morning, followed by a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Zhang Maoming in the afternoon. The next day, he will engage in a bilateral meeting with Scott Arborm, the chargé d’affaires at the U.S. Embassy.
These high-level courtesy meetings were initially postponed due to recent communal violence in Sunsari and surrounding districts. This will be Shah’s first in-person meetings with foreign representatives in Kathmandu since he took office on March 27. Discussions are expected to focus on bilateral relations and official messages from the respective governments.
Following the Gen-Z movement, the public expressed trust in Balendra Shah during the elections. However, the performance of his government post-election has left many citizens disappointed, leading to ongoing protests over various issues. Reports of discord within his party have also emerged, highlighted by criticism from National Independent Party leader Manish Jha regarding Shah’s governance.
Despite this, RSP leader Rabi Lamichhane urged the public not to heed rumors of political instability. Speaking at an event in Kathmandu on Saturday evening, he described the current political discourse as mere noise without real significance. He reassured supporters that their single-party government is fully capable of advancing the country. Drawing a comparison between governance and aviation, Lamichhane likened internal government conflicts to small clouds passing by an airplane.
