Mumbai, March 14: Renowned Indian filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma attended the ‘Red Lorry Film Festival’ held in Mumbai from March 13 to 15. During the event, he shared insights about the festival and his upcoming film, ‘Sarkar 4’.
Varma highlighted the unique aspect of the festival, stating, “The Red Lorry Film Festival connects with regular audiences. They are more emotionally invested in films. They want to meet directors, study art, and understand why a film was made. This sets them apart from the typical audience who just buys tickets to watch a movie. This is why international and serious filmmakers come here; it’s the beauty of this festival.”
Discussing ‘Sarkar 4’, he mentioned that the storyline is distinct, and the film’s world will be broader and more detailed than before. He emphasized the importance of close-up shots and the significant themes explored. He added that the events behind the scenes will be on a much larger scale. Regarding the cast, Varma confirmed that Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan will star in ‘Sarkar 4’, but Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will not be part of the film.
On the topic of the Iran-Israel conflict, he stated that he had expressed his thoughts on social media but refrained from commenting on India’s stance.
Addressing the issue of censorship, he remarked, “In today’s world, social media is accessible to everyone. Imposing bans or removing content feels outdated. I believe there should be no restrictions; we need to trust the audience.”
According to him, there should not be a censorship board, as people are educated enough to know what they are watching. When asked about the controversy involving Trisha and Vijay, he claimed to be unaware of the details. Regarding the release of ‘Bhoot 2’, he stated that there is nothing significant to report.
