Ahmedabad Airport on High Alert After Bomb Threat Email

Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport was placed on high alert on Wednesday following a bomb threat received via email. Security agencies and airport authorities took immediate steps to ensure safety after the threat was reported.

Officials confirmed that a formal complaint was registered at the airport police station, and security was significantly increased across the airport premises. The threatening email was sent from an account named Amber Durham and was received on the airport’s official email ID at 11:05 am.

The email stated, “Ahmedabad Airport is the target,” and included controversial remarks saying that Sikhs are not Hindus. It also accused the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister of being enemies of Khalistan. The message warned of serious consequences if certain demands were not met.

In response, the airport’s chief security officer and senior officials acted promptly. Due to the seriousness of the message, a bomb threat assessment committee meeting was convened at 11:20 am. The meeting lasted about 30 minutes, during which the threat was thoroughly evaluated.

After investigation, the committee classified the email as a ‘non-specific’ bomb threat. Nevertheless, as a precaution, a comprehensive security sweep was carried out throughout the airport, including the baggage and terminal areas.

Ravikant Bhardwaj, the airport’s security duty manager, filed a complaint against an unknown person at the airport police station. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and laws related to criminal intimidation.

A senior police official stated that efforts are ongoing with the help of the cyber crime cell to trace the sender of the email.

This incident follows a similar event on 23 January when at least 20 schools received threatening emails. Following security checks and informing parents, no explosives were found in those cases.
