New Delhi, March 14: Actor Vijay, who is also the president of the Tamilga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), is set to travel to New Delhi this Saturday evening to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This appearance is in relation to the stampede that occurred during his election rally in Karur last year.
The CBI has issued a new summons for Vijay to present himself at their Delhi office on Sunday for questioning. Sources indicate that the TVK leader will depart from Chennai around 3 PM on Saturday and is expected to arrive in the national capital before the interrogation.
This case pertains to the tragic stampede that took place on September 27, 2025, during Vijay’s election rally in Karur, which drew a massive crowd. Reports suggest that the situation escalated uncontrollably as the crowd surged forward, resulting in the deaths of 41 individuals, including women and children. This incident has raised significant concerns regarding crowd management and safety protocols at large political events.
Following the incident, the CBI was assigned to conduct a thorough investigation, focusing on various aspects related to the rally’s organization, including crowd control measures, permits granted for the event, and the roles of the organizers and local authorities.
Vijay had previously appeared before CBI officials on January 12 and January 19 at their New Delhi office, where he was questioned about the planning and execution of the rally, as well as the events leading up to the stampede.
On March 10, the CBI issued another summons for him to appear, but Vijay requested a later date due to prior commitments. Subsequently, the CBI reissued a summons, instructing him to appear before investigators on March 15.
Close sources to the TVK leadership have stated that Vijay has decided to fully cooperate with the investigation and will travel to Delhi this evening to comply with the summons.
The CBI is expected to continue its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Karur stampede to determine accountability for this tragic event.
