Action Initiated Against Bhopal Consumer Commission Head Giribala Singh in Twisha Case

Bhopal, May 21: The Madhya Pradesh government has initiated strict action against Giribala Singh, the head of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Bhopal-2, who is embroiled in the Twisha case. The Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection Department has requested the registrar of the commission to provide an investigation report regarding her removal from the position.

The department directed the registrar to act under Rule 9(2) of the Consumer Protection (Qualifications, Recruitment Method, Appointment Process, Tenure, Resignation, and Removal of State and District Commission Chairpersons and Members) Rules 2020, and to submit the report promptly.

The letter references a case registered at the Katara Hills police station in Bhopal, where Giribala Singh faces charges under sections 80(2), 65(3)(5) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as well as provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

The family had previously demanded her removal from the position. Following the criminal case, the department has expedited the process for her dismissal. Sources indicate that the government may take decisive action in this matter soon.

The Twisha case has sparked ongoing discussions in Bhopal for several days. It has raised questions about the integrity of important judicial institutions like the Consumer Commission. The seriousness of the department’s letter is evident, as it explicitly calls for action based on the criminal case. If the investigation report finds her actions inappropriate, Giribala Singh could be removed from her position.

The Madhya Pradesh government is adopting a strict stance to maintain transparency and fairness in consumer commissions. A final decision in this case is expected soon.
