Abhishek Banerjee Urges Daily Publication of Supplementary Voter Lists

Kolkata, March 6: Abhishek Banerjee, the General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Lok Sabha MP, wrote a letter to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on Friday evening. He requested the daily publication of supplementary voter lists, which were published on February 28, based on the judicial progress of voters identified under the logical inconsistency category.

The final voter list for West Bengal, from which 6 million cases were removed for judicial adjudication, was released on February 28. According to a previous order from the Supreme Court, the supplementary list is to be published in a timely manner. Banerjee is now demanding that the supplementary list be updated daily based on the progress of judicial adjudication.

In his letter, a copy of which is available with the news agency, Banerjee expressed concerns regarding transparency and procedural compliance in the publication of electoral rolls for the 2026 Assembly elections in West Bengal. He noted that no clear notification has been issued confirming that voters included through the daily supplementary electoral roll will be considered part of the final electoral roll.

The letter also highlighted that the Supreme Court’s directives, which mandated the daily publication of supplementary electoral rolls reflecting adjudication results, have not been followed. According to Banerjee, there has been a lack of transparency in the decisions made by authorities regarding claims and objections, which he believes violates the Supreme Court’s orders.

He further stated that due to the absence of proper orders explaining why a voter’s name was rejected or deleted, citizens have been deprived of the opportunity to seek legal assistance.

In a statement released late Friday, the Trinamool Congress claimed, “Our National General Secretary has demanded immediate corrective measures to ensure transparency, fairness, and strict adherence to court directives in the electoral process. The fight to protect the democratic rights of the people of Bengal will continue.”
