Delhi High Court Issues Notice to CBSE Over Evaluation Irregularities

New Delhi, June 8: The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the central government and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in response to demands for an independent investigation into irregularities in the digital evaluation system (OSM) used for the Class 12 examinations. The court has scheduled the next hearing for June 12, 2026.

This action follows a public interest petition filed by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress party. The petition alleges that technical flaws and discrepancies in the on-screen marking (OSM) system have caused significant distress for thousands of students. Reports indicate that some answer scripts are missing, others are unclear, and some have been incorrectly evaluated.

The NSUI has called for an independent agency to investigate all irregularities in the digital evaluation process. They also demand the establishment of strict security measures, protocols, and guidelines to prevent such incidents in the future. Additionally, the petition requests that CBSE provide compensatory marks to all affected students.

Petitioners argue that recurring issues within the digital evaluation system are jeopardizing students’ futures. Many parents and students have reported problems such as inconsistent scoring, missing scripts, and erroneous evaluations. The NSUI has accused CBSE of not taking these complaints seriously.

The NSUI emphasizes that while the use of digital methods in education is increasing, robust security measures and backup plans are essential. The petition calls for CBSE to develop a complaint resolution mechanism promptly to address students’ issues effectively.
