New Delhi, August 31: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Atishi has targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in response to the recent bus rape incident in Delhi, expressing deep concerns over women’s safety.
In an interview with a news agency, Atishi stated, “The Uttar Pradesh government is led by the BJP. The Delhi government is also under BJP control. The Uttar Pradesh police, the Delhi police, the Lieutenant Governor, and the Ministry of Home Affairs are all under BJP. Is there any engine left that is not BJP-controlled? Yet, a 16-year-old girl was raped on a bus traveling from Noida to Delhi, and the entire nation is witnessing this.”
She further questioned, “I want to ask the BJP, how long will girls continue to suffer and be victims of violence in this country? The BJP has been in power for 12 to 13 years, but it is evident that rapists and those who commit violence against women have no fear of the BJP government, its police, or the courts.”
Atishi emphasized that the accused are aware that the police will not take action. “If the police do make an arrest, a settlement will occur, and they will be granted bail,” she added.
According to police reports, the victim, an 11th-grade student from Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, left home without informing her family due to a dispute. She was heading to visit her cousin in Noida. Due to heavy rain and darkness, she mistakenly got off at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida. At that moment, an empty sleeper bus passed by. The girl signaled the bus to stop, and the driver and conductor allowed her to board, claiming they were heading to Noida Sector 63.
Shortly after the bus started moving, the conductor began making inappropriate advances towards the victim. According to her account, both the driver and conductor then raped her, threatening her life if she resisted. The accused abandoned the victim late at night near the Ring Road close to Kashmiri Gate bus terminal and fled the scene.
