AAP Criticizes Delhi Government Over Pink Pass Requirement for Womens Free Bus Travel

New Delhi, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has sharply criticized the Delhi government following the introduction of the Pink Pass, which is now mandatory for women to travel for free on city buses. Saurabh Bhardwaj, the party’s Delhi president, highlighted that women are facing long queues to obtain this pass, often waiting for hours without success.

Bhardwaj asserted that the government’s actions reflect a troubling habit of inconveniencing the public. He claimed that previously accessible services have become complicated, forcing citizens to line up for even minor tasks. According to him, the Chief Minister has made it a practice to require people to wait in queues for services that used to be straightforward.

He pointed to various issues, including the demonetization, the SIR, and the challenges related to the Pink Pass and LPG cylinders. His accusation is that these difficulties are designed to distract the public from demanding new services, keeping them preoccupied with daily struggles. Bhardwaj noted that women in Delhi once enjoyed free bus travel without needing any special pass.

The introduction of the Pink Pass, he argued, has created new hurdles for women, many of whom are now deprived of this service. He also expressed concern for women traveling from neighboring states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, stating that they are being treated unfairly.

Bhardwaj emphasized that many women commute from areas such as Noida, Faridabad, Gurugram, and Sonipat for employment, education, and other essential needs. Thus, any new regulations regarding free bus travel directly affect them. He urged the government to simplify the process and address the issues faced by women immediately.

The AAP has maintained that rather than complicating the existing free bus travel system with the Pink Pass requirement, the government should work towards easing the situation for women instead of forcing them into long lines for a pass.
