Chandigarh, September 30 (Daily Kiran) : A special investigation team (SIT) probing a ₹6,000 crore drug case has summoned Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia and drug racket leader Jagdish Bhola for questioning on October 5. Punjab legislator Kuldeep Dhaliwal criticized the Akali Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their role in the drug crisis during a recent statement.
Dhaliwal insisted that both Majithia and Bhola should be interrogated together to thoroughly investigate every link in the drug network. He emphasized that all aspects of the drug trade must be examined, with no leniency granted to anyone involved.
He pointed out that the public is well aware of how the drug network expanded across Punjab during the Akali-BJP government from 2007 to 2017, where Majithia played a significant role. Dhaliwal stated that anyone who brought drugs into Punjab and led the youth towards substance abuse must face strict legal action.
Additionally, he accused opposition parties of politicizing the drug issue to tarnish the reputation of the Bhagwant Mann government. He asserted that the people of Punjab recognize the efforts of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in combating drug-related issues.
Dhaliwal further remarked that if there was an intention to file false cases, it could have been done already. Instead, he noted that the investigation is being conducted with full legal integrity and transparency.
He challenged BJP leaders to explain where such a large volume of drugs is coming from before lecturing Punjab on the issue. He highlighted that significant quantities of drugs are entering through ports in BJP-ruled Gujarat and being distributed to Punjab and other states via various routes.
Before engaging in political discourse regarding drugs in Punjab, Dhaliwal urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address the drug influx from Gujarat. He questioned why the BJP does not start its “drug-free journey” in Gujarat and respond to inquiries concerning the drug seizures made there.
