Young Man Stranded in Malaysia Returns to India Thanks to Efforts of Local MP

Kapurthala, May 14: A young man from Jalandhar, Akash, who was stranded in Malaysia for nearly 15 days, has safely returned to India. His return was made possible through the efforts of Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal. Upon arriving in India, Akash’s family met with Seechewal to express their gratitude, acknowledging his support during their difficult time.

According to reports, Akash was returning to India from New Zealand but faced issues with documentation during his journey, which led him to Malaysia. He was forced to remain at the airport for several days and was later placed in a detention center.

In a conversation with the media, Balbir Singh Seechewal highlighted that many young people aspire to go abroad, but some end up stranded due to unforeseen circumstances. Akash’s situation was a case in point.

Seechewal explained that Akash had traveled to New Zealand 13 years ago. On April 24, he returned to India but was sent back to Malaysia because he had arrived in Delhi on a Malaysian airline. Due to a dispute involving his name, the immigration department returned him to Malaysia, where he was denied entry. Consequently, Akash spent several days at the airport before being placed in a camp. His parents approached Seechewal for assistance, which led to his eventual return.

After returning to India, Akash and his family met with Seechewal, presenting him with a garland made of currency notes as a token of appreciation. Akash also sought his blessings by touching his feet. The family shared that the prolonged uncertainty about their son’s situation had created a stressful atmosphere at home, and their hopes were dwindling. However, thanks to Seechewal’s initiative and persistent efforts, their son is finally home.

Akash recounted the harrowing experience he faced, spending several days at the airport and dealing with significant mental stress. He emphasized the need for stronger systems to assist Indians stranded abroad, to prevent others from enduring similar hardships.

The family has also appealed to the central government and relevant agencies to ensure prompt action in assisting Indians in distress overseas.
