New Delhi, June 17: The Central District team of the Delhi Police has arrested a young man for attempting to instill fear by showcasing illegal weapons on social media. The accused was posting videos and stories on Instagram, brandishing a local firearm, in an effort to assert dominance among his peers in the neighborhood. Following swift action, police recovered a local gun and a live cartridge from the suspect’s home. An Arms Act case has been registered at the Chandni Mahal police station, and further investigations are underway.
On June 16, 2026, the in-charge at PP Turkman Gate received a tip-off about a young man posting videos and stories with a local pistol on Instagram. Taking the information seriously, immediate action was initiated, and the Chandni Mahal police station was informed.
Based on the tip-off, a special team was formed under the leadership of SI Narendra Singh, in charge of Turkman Gate. The team included ASI Babulal, Head Constable Yogendra, Head Constable Nitin, Constable Deepak, Constable Saurav, and Constable Ankit. The entire operation was conducted under the supervision of the SHO of Chandni Mahal and ACP Dariyaganj. The police team raided the Fateh Teliyaan area, located the suspect, and took him into custody for questioning.
During the interrogation, the accused revealed that he works at a pizza outlet, where he prepares and delivers pizzas. He admitted that he uploaded videos and stories with the weapon on Instagram solely to instill fear, bolster his image, and establish dominance among his peers and local residents.
The accused also disclosed that he had hidden the weapon at his home. Acting on this information, police searched his residence, where they found a local gun and a live cartridge. The police seized the weapon and cartridge under legal procedures. The arrested individual has been identified as Zaid, aged 18 years and 4 months, a resident of Turkman Gate, New Delhi.
An FIR has been registered under Arms Act sections 25/54/59 at the Chandni Mahal police station, numbered 356/26, dated June 16, 2026. The police are now investigating how the accused obtained the illegal weapon and whether others are involved in this case.
