Lucknow, April 19: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a press conference in the state capital, Lucknow, on Sunday regarding the Nari Shakti Vandan Act.
CM Yogi emphasized that when Prime Minister Modi took office in 2014, he made it clear that there are four main groups in the country: women, the poor, youth, and farmers. He accused certain political factions of exploiting caste for personal gain, weakening the nation in the process. He described the Nari Shakti Vandan Act amendment as a challenge for these groups.
He pointed out that under PM Modi’s leadership, any progressive initiative has faced opposition from Congress and its allies. Yogi noted that there is significant anger among women regarding the opposition’s anti-women behavior, particularly directed at parties like the Samajwadi Party, RJD, TMC, and DMK.
The Chief Minister highlighted how the opposition attempts to obstruct the beneficial steps taken by PM Modi for society and the nation. He recalled that the Nari Shakti Vandan Act was passed in 2023, and after discussions with women’s and social organizations, the government agreed to implement it by 2029 instead of 2034.
Yogi mentioned that some states raised concerns about the potential reduction of their rights through this act. However, PM Modi assured that no one’s rights would be diminished. The act aims to increase the number of seats reserved for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies to 33 percent, ensuring that no one’s rights are compromised.
He criticized the irresponsible comments and behavior of the opposition in the assembly, stating that if passed unanimously, it would have benefited all. Yogi addressed the issue raised by the Samajwadi Party regarding the lack of reservation for Muslim women, questioning their commitment to constitutional values.
He recalled that during the drafting of the Indian Constitution, there were demands for reservations based on religion, which were opposed by all parties. He quoted Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s strong stance against such divisions, emphasizing that India should not prepare for a second partition. He questioned the opposition’s sincerity in advocating for Muslim women’s rights, recalling the Shah Bano case where the Congress government denied rights to Muslim women.
