Churu, April 19: Women in Churu district, Rajasthan, have expressed their disappointment over the failure to pass the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill. They are urging for a serious reconsideration of the bill. The women also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts regarding women’s issues.
Social worker Rani Kanwar stated that the Women’s Reservation Bill brought by the central government could not be passed, leading to deep disappointment among women. She emphasized that women are already facing numerous social and economic challenges, and the bill’s failure feels like a setback.
Kanwar insisted that there should be a renewed focus on this issue. She referenced Prime Minister Modi’s recent address, where he expressed concern for women and offered an apology. However, she stressed the need for a thorough reconsideration of the bill to advance it. She noted that this could have been a significant step towards women’s empowerment, deserving support from all political parties.
Educator Dr. Prabha Parikh described the situation as tragic. She mentioned that the government was serious about women’s reservation and had attempted to bring it to the assembly, but opposition resistance prevented its passage. Parikh believes this has hurt women’s hopes and squandered a crucial opportunity for their empowerment. She appealed to the opposition to reconsider the issue so that women can receive their rightful representation.
Former registrar Pramod Kumar remarked that women have always held an important place in Indian society, rooted in traditions that honor women. He noted that the government was making efforts to promote women, but political reasons hindered the bill’s passage.
Kumar urged all political parties to set aside their differences and prioritize women’s interests, as women constitute half of the country’s population. He concluded that advancing women would benefit both the nation and society as a whole.
