Tejashwi Yadav Advocates for Womens Reservation in Bihar Politics

Patna, April 19: Tejashwi Yadav, the National Executive President of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), criticized the ruling party on Sunday regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill. He stated that there is no opposition to women’s reservation. “We demand that women be granted 50 percent reservation,” he asserted.

Yadav claimed that the RJD has awarded the highest number of tickets to women. In a media interaction, he mentioned that the Women’s Reservation Bill was passed three years ago. The current discussions are about redistricting and increasing the number of seats.

He clearly stated that the ruling party intends to manipulate the redistricting process. Areas where the opposition is strong may face fragmentation. He emphasized the need for a bill that allows women from rural areas, not just urban ones, to enter Parliament.

As the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Yadav took a jab at Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, suggesting that people from the Prime Minister’s Office are needed to manage him. He challenged the BJP to release their statistics, asserting that the RJD has given the highest number of tickets to women. According to him, in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the RJD has allocated 29 percent of its tickets to women in Bihar. Additionally, 25 percent of RJD’s Lok Sabha MPs are women.

In the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the RJD also provided the highest percentage of tickets to women at 17 percent. The RJD holds the highest representation of women in the Bihar Legislative Council, with 21.4 percent. He further noted that the first and only female Chief Minister of Bihar has been from the RJD. Over the past 30 years, the last female Union Minister from Bihar was also from the RJD.

Yadav accused the BJP and JD(U) of being anti-women, stating that in 75 years of Bihar’s history, they have not appointed a single woman as a Union Minister or Chief Minister. “These hypocritical individuals talk about women’s upliftment?” he questioned.
