Auraiya, August 1 (HS): Due to the release of large volumes of water from the Kota Barrage, the water levels of the Yamuna and Chambal rivers have risen nearly 5 metres above the danger mark, creating a severe flood-like situation in the districts of Auraiya, Jalaun, and Etawah.

According to administrative officials, the water level is rising at a rate of 9 to 10 centimetres per hour, severely affecting thousands of villagers. The situation in the Panchnad region, where five rivers converge, is becoming increasingly critical.

Villagers Flee as Floodwaters Submerge Homes and Fields

Several villages in the Ajitmal tehsil—such as Mai, Asta, Sikarodi, Gaunhi Kalan, Goonj, Tatarpur Kalan, Asewa, Kaitholi, Fariha, Bhareh, Juhi Kha, and Asevta—are completely submerged due to the rising river waters. The situation is most serious in Sikarodi, Gaunhi Kalan, Goonj, Tatarpur Kalan, Juhi Kha, and Fariha, where even primary schools have gone underwater. Thousands of bighas of farmland have been submerged, causing significant losses to farmers.

Villages Cut Off; Boats and NDRF Teams Deployed

Floodwaters have cut off many villages from each other. In Gaunhi Kalan, the administration has deployed three boats to evacuate residents to safer areas. The NDRF is also actively involved in rescue operations.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nikhil Rajput said that all departments are on high alert. Flood control centres are monitoring the situation, and rescue operations are ongoing at a war footing.

Relief Camps Set Up; Public Urged to Stay Cautious

Relief camps have been established at Hanumana Gadhi School in Jajpur and in village Juhi Kha. These camps are equipped with mattresses, blankets, drinking water, food, lighting, and medical facilities.

In Bhareh village, water from the Chambal river has reached the steps of the Bhareshwar temple, adding to the alarm.

The administration has appealed to the public to avoid entering flood-affected areas unnecessarily, not to believe in rumours, and to immediately contact authorities in case of emergencies. The situation is being closely monitored and reviewed continuously.
