Noida Police Uncover Gang Behind Mobile Phone Heists, Four Arrested

Noida, July 1: The police in Noida’s Sector 49 have dismantled a notorious gang that was robbing pedestrians by offering them lifts in their car. The gang would unlock victims’ mobile phones and transfer money from their bank accounts. Four suspects have been arrested in connection with this case. Authorities recovered a stolen iPhone 16, a smartwatch, a charger, an Aadhaar card, ₹2,300 in cash, and the vehicle used in the crimes.

According to police reports, on June 29, a victim filed a complaint at the Sector 49 police station. The victim stated that he was forced into a car by several individuals in the Sector 50 area. The suspects not only stole his mobile phone, charger, power bank, and cash but also threatened him to unlock his phone. They then transferred money from his bank account using mobile banking. Based on this complaint, a case was registered, and an investigation commenced.

To solve the case, special police teams were formed. Utilizing manual intelligence and electronic surveillance, the police apprehended the four suspects on June 30, 2026, right in front of Sector 50. The arrested individuals have been identified as Amit, Nitin, Vivek, and Rishi. All four hail from different villages in Firozabad district, although one of them was residing in Noida’s Sector 141 at the time of the arrest.

During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they were friends who previously worked as drivers and laborers in the Delhi-NCR region. Lured by the prospect of quick and illegal money, they resorted to committing such crimes. They would offer lifts to unsuspecting pedestrians, then rob them of their mobile phones, cash, and other belongings. If the victim had a banking app on their phone, they would intimidate them into unlocking it and transfer funds to their accounts.

A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sector 49 police station. The police are also investigating the suspects’ criminal history and are trying to determine how many similar incidents they may have committed in Noida, Delhi, or other NCR areas. Authorities believe that further questioning could reveal additional cases linked to this gang.
