
Patna, July 1: Bhojpuri film star Pawan Singh officially began his political journey by taking an oath as a member of the Bihar Legislative Council on Wednesday. The ceremony took place at the Bihar Vidhan Mandal premises in Patna, where the newly elected ten members were sworn in by Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh. The event was attended by several senior leaders, including Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary.
The oath-taking ceremony commenced with Lalan Prasad from the Janata Dal (United), followed by Anil Thakur from the BJP and Ashraf Ansari from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). Bihar’s Health Minister Nishant Kumar took his oath fourth in line, with Pawan Singh following as the fifth member. Both Nishant Kumar and Pawan Singh are entering the Legislative Council for the first time.
Lalan Prasad was elected to fill the seat vacated by JD(U) National President and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who resigned from the council after becoming a Rajya Sabha member in March 2026. During the ceremony, three newly elected female members also took their oaths, including Bharti Mehta and Shivrani Devi from JD(U), along with Sheela Prajapati.
Following this, Sanjay Mayukh from the BJP took his oath, and Sunil Kumar Singh from the Rashtriya Janata Dal was the last to be sworn in. With this oath-taking ceremony, all ten newly elected members officially became part of the council. Pawan Singh’s transition from the entertainment industry to active politics has garnered significant attention, marking the beginning of his new role as a member of the Legislative Council.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Nishant Kumar is also embarking on his first term in the council. After the oath-taking, all members reiterated their commitment to uphold the dignity of the house and work for the public’s interest.
