Government Takes Action Against Misuse of E-Rickshaw Batteries

New Delhi, July 22: The government has responded to reports of unauthorized remote control misuse of e-rickshaw batteries. In this regard, it has ordered the removal of certain battery management system applications from app stores. An official statement was released on Wednesday.

Electronics and Information Technology Minister Jitin Prasad informed the Lok Sabha that the government has developed a nationwide integrated framework to enhance cyber security and digital resilience within the digital ecosystem.

According to the statement from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the integrated framework includes the National Cyber Security Coordinator under the National Security Council Secretariat. This will ensure coordination on cyber security matters among various agencies.

The statement also mentioned that the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has been designated as the national agency to handle cyber incidents under Section 70B of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

The National Cyber Coordination Centre (NCCC), operated by CERT-In, analyzes cyberspace to detect cyber security threats. It shares information with relevant organizations, state governments, and stakeholder agencies for prompt action.

Furthermore, the government has established the National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre (NCIIPC) to secure critical information infrastructure in the country under Section 70A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

The Consumer Protection Act, 2019, administered by the Department of Consumer Affairs under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, was enacted to modernize the framework governing consumer protection in the era of globalization, technology, and e-commerce markets.

The ministry’s statement highlighted that the Electronics and Information Technology Ministry is implementing the Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) project to strengthen human resources in the field of information security and to raise public awareness.

Additionally, awareness materials on various aspects of cyber hygiene and cyber security are being disseminated through several government portals.
