Aadhaar App Surpasses 40 Million Downloads Amid Growing Digital Service Adoption

New Delhi, July 18: The government-supported Aadhaar app has crossed the milestone of 40 million downloads. This achievement indicates a rapid adoption of digital identity services. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology announced on Saturday that millions of Indian residents are using this app to update Aadhaar-related information, manage security settings, and access various services.

According to the ministry, the Aadhaar app has become a one-stop digital platform for multiple Aadhaar-related services. Users can now update their address, mobile number, and email, as well as lock or unlock their biometric data and download e-Aadhaar from the comfort of their homes.

Since its launch, over 1.165 million address updates have been processed through the app. This feature eliminates the need for individuals to visit enrollment or update centers, allowing them to update their information from home.

Additionally, approximately 4.9 million mobile numbers have been updated via the app, enabling users to keep their contact details linked to Aadhaar accurate and current.

Following the introduction of the email update feature on July 1, around 1.25 million email IDs have been added or updated. The government noted that previously, a fee of ₹75 was charged for this service, but it is now available for free through the Aadhaar app until December 31, 2026.

The app’s privacy and security features have also seen widespread adoption. The biometric lock/unlock feature has been utilized over 19.1 million times, allowing Aadhaar holders to secure their biometric data and reduce the risk of misuse.

The ministry stated that the Aadhaar app is designed to enable Aadhaar number holders to display, share, and verify their identity easily, securely, and with a privacy-first approach. It also contributes to advancing the goals of a developed India under the Digital India mission, making life easier for citizens.

Earlier this month, the government reported that within the first two days of the new email update feature, over 250,000 people had updated their email IDs in their Aadhaar records.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has now made it possible for Aadhaar holders to directly add or update their email IDs through the Aadhaar app, eliminating the need to visit an enrollment or update center.
