New Delhi, April 7: A special session of Parliament will be convened from April 16 to 18 to discuss the Women Reservation Bill. This announcement has sparked reactions from various women leaders across the country.
Rekha Patra, the BJP candidate from the Hingalganj constituency in West Bengal, expressed her support for the bill, stating, “PM Modi has always backed women. It is commendable that he has called for this session. What our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee failed to accomplish, our Prime Minister is doing, and I take pride in that.”
Sapan Singh, the District Panchayat President from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, began by thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She highlighted the importance of women’s representation in their party’s committee, which now mandates seven women members. “Women embody transparency and resilience,” she noted.
She further emphasized that women excel in their roles, stating, “Our President is a woman, managing the entire nation. I believe women can manage both families and the country effectively.” Singh remarked that the respect for women in the BJP is growing, and they aim to work alongside men as equals. “Whenever given the opportunity, women will rise to the occasion, inspired by PM Modi’s respect for them,” she added.
Addressing opposition claims, she asserted that the bill will be implemented by the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. “This is not a populist bill; it has been pending for a long time. The opposition is merely trying to spread confusion and obstruct good initiatives,” she said.
Aastha Agarwal, the Chairperson of the Municipal Corporation in Pilibhit, praised the Modi government’s move for 33% reservation for women. She stated that this will enhance women’s participation, noting, “When a household is run by a woman, it operates more efficiently. This is a beautiful initiative; equal participation will make India progressive and dynamic.”
Women from Hardoi, including lawyers and social workers, have also welcomed the bill. One woman remarked that the bill will empower women to become self-reliant, providing them with economic and social strength. “If women can manage homes well, they can contribute significantly to the nation. Until now, only men raised their voices, but now women will also speak up in the Lok Sabha and Assembly,” she stated.
Another woman expressed her gratitude to PM Modi for initiating the reservation for women. “This will provide a significant number of women with representation, allowing them to step out of their homes and contest elections,” she concluded.
