Who is Manav Suthar, the Debutant Against Afghanistan? Kuldeep Hands Over the Cap

New Chandigarh, June 6: India is set to face Afghanistan in a single Test match starting Saturday at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat first. This match marks the Test debut of Manav Suthar for India.

The 23-year-old Manav Suthar is a left-arm orthodox spinner. He also has the ability to contribute significantly with the bat. Manav plays domestic cricket for Rajasthan and made his first-class debut in 2022. So far, he has taken 129 wickets in 29 first-class matches at an average of 25.76.

In List A cricket, he has claimed 34 wickets in 25 matches. During the 2023 ODI World Cup, Manav, as a net bowler, troubled star players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma with his spinning deliveries. He can also play a crucial role with the bat, having scored 945 runs in 29 first-class matches, including one century and six half-centuries. In List A cricket, he has accumulated 350 runs.

Manav received his debut cap from Kuldeep Yadav and was seen playing for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026, where he participated in four matches and took two wickets. His spinning skills could pose a challenge for Afghanistan’s batsmen.

Manav is the first specialist spinner to debut for India since 2021. The Indian team has fielded three spinners against Afghanistan, including Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar, alongside fast bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna.
