Harare, July 24: The West Indies team is set to face Pakistan in a two-match Test series from July 25 to August 6. Left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop has received his first call-up to the Caribbean squad.
Bishop’s selection comes as a reward for his outstanding performance in regional cricket. Over the last three seasons of the West Indies Championship, he has taken a total of 91 wickets for Barbados Pride and the West Indies Academy. In 25 first-class matches, he has claimed 116 wickets, while in 54 List A matches, he has recorded 79 wickets.
Roston Chase will lead the team, having recently missed the ODI series against New Zealand due to an injury to his right index finger. Jo-Mel Warrican will serve as the vice-captain. The selectors have retained the core team that won the Test series against Sri Lanka 1-0 earlier this month.
Batsman Kirk McKenzie makes his return to the Test squad for the first time since 2024. He replaces opener John Campbell, who is sidelined with a left hamstring strain sustained during recent ODIs against New Zealand. McKenzie has been in excellent form domestically, scoring 323 runs at an average of 64.6 in six innings during the West Indies Championship. Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph was unavailable for selection due to personal reasons.
The first match of the series will be held at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy from July 25 to 29, while the second Test will take place from August 2 to 6 at the historic Queen’s Park Oval. Currently, the West Indies team is ranked eighth in the WTC standings, while Pakistan sits at the bottom in ninth place.
