West Bengals Banglar Bari Project Renamed to West Bengal Housing

Kolkata, August 6: The previous state government’s ‘Banglar Bari Project’ will be permanently renamed to ‘West Bengal Housing.’

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will initiate the process of transferring the second installment directly into the accounts of 1 million families under this newly named project from the Nabanna auditorium at the state secretariat.

The former Trinamool Congress government had promised grants to 1.8 million families for housing in the second phase. Each family was allocated ₹120,000, with an initial installment of ₹60,000 already disbursed before the assembly elections.

Due to the change in government, the payment of the second installment was pending. Now, after a new survey, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government will send the second installment to eligible beneficiaries’ accounts.

The then Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had renamed the central government‘s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to Banglar Bari. The project will now be renamed, and the first program under the new title will be held tomorrow.

According to sources in the state secretariat, only families that have completed construction using the first installment will be considered eligible for the second installment.

A new survey will be conducted for the 800,000 families that received the funds but have not yet completed the first phase of construction. After the construction reaches the designated level, a new survey will be conducted. Based on that survey report, the state government will send funds for the next phase.

The distribution of funds will occur only after thorough checks and verifications. The Chief Minister has instructed the relevant department officials regarding this matter.
