Agartala, August 6: Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized on Wednesday that there will be “no leniency” in the fight against drugs and crime. He instructed the police and administration to coordinate closely and form special task forces when necessary to combat drug trafficking and criminal activities.
Addressing a virtual meeting on the task monitoring system from the state secretariat, the Chief Minister stated that achieving the goal of a drug-free Tripura requires enhanced coordination, strictness, and effective action at all administrative levels. He urged the police and district administration to identify crime-prone areas, increase regular patrols, and strengthen surveillance around sensitive locations, including schools and colleges.
CM Saha also stressed the need for 24-hour CCTV surveillance and additional police deployment in the GBP Hospital area of Agartala to prevent criminal incidents. He directed officials to adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards drug-related crimes.
Highlighting the importance of tourism, the Chief Minister noted that Tripura has gained national recognition for its tourism potential. He instructed all departments and district administrations to maintain cleanliness and tourist-friendly conditions at key tourist sites such as Chabimura, Unakoti, Dumbur, and Neermahal through regular inspections and monitoring.
Saha also asked district officials to prepare extensively for the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign and the 150th anniversary celebrations of “Vande Mataram,” which will take place from August 9 to 17. The main state-level event is scheduled for August 11 at Ujjayanta Palace, with an emphasis on ensuring active public participation.
In reviewing the education sector, the Chief Minister mentioned several initiatives aimed at improving government schools. He emphasized the need for regular monitoring of academic standards, infrastructure, cleanliness, signage, and the overall educational environment. District officials were warned to conduct thorough inspections of schools and to avoid negligence in their duties.
The Chief Minister appealed to officials to engage with the public with humility, patience, and sensitivity. He also reviewed the status of roads, electricity supply, and drinking water services in the state, stressing the need for better coordination among departments to address public grievances promptly.
Referring to the Jal Jeevan Mission, Saha stated that approximately 85-86% of the project work has been completed, urging for rapid completion of the remaining tasks. He specifically called for innovative and practical solutions to address drinking water issues in districts like Khowai.
He reviewed the progress of operating Kailashahar Airport and requested detailed information from the relevant departments. Emphasizing citizen-centric governance, he stated that government services should be delivered with efficiency, courtesy, and accountability.
The meeting began with a detailed presentation on the task monitoring system by the Chief Minister’s secretary and the Secretary of Information and Cultural Affairs, Kiran Gitte, who also conducted the meeting.
Present at the meeting were Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Principal Secretary, Secretary, Director, and other senior officials. District officials, police superintendents, and other officers from all eight districts participated virtually.
