Malda, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : The Malda division of Eastern Railway has kicked off a cleanliness awareness campaign as part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2026’ initiative. This campaign, which runs from September 17 to October 2, aims to raise awareness about cleanliness in railway colonies and stations. Under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Manish Kumar Gupta, railway officials, employees, and members of the Bharat Scouts and Guides actively participated.
Door-to-door awareness programs were organized in various railway colonies, including Malda Town, New Farakka, Bhagalpur, and Sahibganj. Railway supervisors engaged with residents in the Malda Middle Colony and Power House Colony, discussing the importance of cleanliness, proper waste disposal, safety measures, and environmental protection. They emphasized the significance of community involvement in the cleanliness drive.
Similarly, in Bhagalpur railway colony, officials interacted with locals to encourage them to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings, dispose of waste responsibly, and participate in cleanliness activities.
According to the Malda division, the goal of these direct contact programs is to convey the message of cleanliness to households and motivate residents to become active participants in the initiative.
Awareness programs were also conducted for passengers at various railway stations, including Banka, Dhanouri, Dhulian Ganga, New Farakka, and Jamalpur. At Jamalpur railway station, flyers were distributed to passengers, urging them to maintain cleanliness in the railway premises, use designated waste bins, and dispose of waste responsibly.
Additionally, awareness campaigns promoting a ‘Say No to Single-Use Plastic’ message were held at different stations. The railway authorities encouraged passengers to reduce their use of single-use plastics and adopt eco-friendly alternatives.
Through these awareness and outreach activities, the Malda division aims to foster a collective sense of responsibility for keeping railway premises clean, tidy, and environmentally friendly.
