Durgapur, May 21: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has arrived in the industrial city of Durgapur for the first time since taking office. He will preside over a high-level administrative meeting at the Srijani Hall, which is considered crucial for strengthening the new government’s administrative agenda.
In light of the Chief Minister’s visit, stringent security measures have been implemented in Durgapur. The entire venue is under a three-tier security system. Bomb disposal squads and dog units have been deployed. Prior to the Chief Minister’s arrival, extensive searches and sanitization efforts were conducted throughout the area.
Officials from the districts of Purulia, Bankura, Birbhum, West Bardhaman, and East Bardhaman will participate in the meeting. Attendees will include MPs, MLAs, district magistrates, superintendents of police, police commissioners, BDOs, and other senior administrative and police officials. According to sources, the meeting will primarily focus on law and order, review of development projects, implementation of various schemes, and enhancing administrative coordination. This marks the second significant administrative event since the new government took office.
Previously, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari held similar meetings with districts in North Bengal. Administrative sources indicate that this meeting aims to establish better coordination among districts, particularly focusing on strict law enforcement, accelerating development projects, and curbing corruption.
Durgapur is a major industrial hub in the West Bardhaman district, home to steel plants, coal mines, and various other industries. Therefore, discussions may also cover industrial development, unemployment, infrastructure, and investment attraction.
There is considerable enthusiasm at the local level regarding the Chief Minister’s visit. BJP workers have made preparations to welcome him. Meanwhile, traffic control measures have been implemented throughout the city for security reasons.
